In early January 2017, my travels took me to Indianapolis to help plan the 2017 Annual Meeting of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and World Congress on Exercise is Medicine. Having served for a number of years on the program planning committee, I always enjoy the chance to travel to Indy and work with many close friends and colleagues to help plan this important meeting. The 2017 meeting will be held in Denver from May 29th thru June 2nd, and judging from all the great submissions I reviewed, this year’s meeting should be outstanding as usual.

The ACSM Annual meeting is always my favorite meeting of the year because it brings together the top scientists and clinicians in the world from the area of sports and exercise medicine. It gives me a chance to hear the latest research pertaining to the field and interact with the many top notch professionals who attend. This year I will again have the opportunity to chair the World Congress on Exercise is Medicine, in which many of the world’s experts on the health benefits of physical activity come together to help advance the science and practice in this area. The entire meeting typically draws close to 7,000 participants from around the world to a variety of sessions on a broad range of topics relevant to sports medicine and exercise science.

Of course, while I was in Indy I made sure to get out and do some walking. This year was a challenge because of cold weather and snow, but I was still able to get out and walk dressed in several layers of clothing. I also had the chance to catch up with many great friends, including a nice dinner with Dr. Steve Blair. Steve’s research has been the inspiration behind much of the work I have done on the Exercise is Medicine and Every Body Walk! campaigns. Although he has semi-retired from his position as Professor in the Departments of Exercise Science and Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina, Steve continues to travel the world lecturing on his ground breaking research into the amazing health benefits of physical activity.

Thanks again for reading my blog and spreading the word on the amazing health benefits gained thru regular walking.

Keep walking my friends!

Bob
