Safe Routes to School (SRTS) is a national program that tries to make it easier and safer for students to walk or bike to school. SRTS programs examine conditions around schools and conduct projects and activities that work to improve safety and accessibility, and reduce traffic and air pollution in the vicinity of schools.
A Walking School Bus program involves a group of kids who meet up and walk to school as a group (with adult supervision). Students who partake in these projects are more energized and attentive in the classroom, socialize with their neighbors and learn about their community.
