Everyone’s favorite Angry Birds – Red, Chuck and Bomb, along with two-time Olympic swimmer Chloe Sutton, are getting fired up for fitness and looking to engage kids of all ages! In celebration of The Angry Birds Movie, now available on Blu-ray™, DVD and digital, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (SPHE) has teamed up with The American Heart Association (AHA) for the launch of the “Angry Birds, Happy Bodies” fitness initiative designed to get kids moving and having fun being active. Sutton will serve as ambassador of the initiative, making an appearance at the kick-off event in Los Angeles.
“We love that Red, Chuck and Bomb are helping kids keep their minds and bodies happy and healthy,” said Lexine Wong, SPHE’s Senior Executive Vice President, Worldwide Marketing. “With our release of The Angry Birds Movie timed around the global athletic events in Rio, it is the perfect time to encourage everyone to keep active.”
“Angry Birds, Happy Bodies” encourages school-aged kids to get in at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day, as recommended by the AHA, and to make physical activity fun for the whole family. It also supports #ProtectPE, the AHA’s initiative to help kids get active and healthy for life by ensuring all students receive quality physical education at their school. Only 4% of elementary, 8% of middle and 2% of high schools provide daily PE or its equivalent for the entire year. Whether it’s jumping rope, running around the block, doing jumping jacks or vacuuming the house, there are many ways to break a sweat and keep a body moving.
“The American Heart Association is committed to providing people across the country with the tools they need to lead heart-healthy lives, and that includes kids,” said Dr. Alistair B.M. Phillips, Co-Director of the Guerin Family Congenital Heart Program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and President of AHA’s Los Angeles County Division Board of Directors. “Whether that means encouraging them to get at least 60 minutes of physical activity or ‘play time’ each day, or ensuring physical education classes as part of curriculums across the country, we want kids to know that physical activity can be fun and can help prevent the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases.”
The national initiative launches today with events from coast to coast, helping students kick off the new school year with healthy goals. Red, Chuck, Bomb (and even some naughty green piggies) are joined by AHA’s remarkable “jump teams,” where students will participate in jump rope challenges that can be a part of their daily fitness routines. The campaign will continue through the school year to support Physical Education programs in our schools.
Additional activity resources are available at www.heart.org. Parents interested in learning more about the benefits of Physical Education can visit p2a.co/2RM2knH. People can also help children around the country increase their levels of physical activity by texting HEART to 52886 to support active kids as well as share on social platforms using #AngryBirdsHappyBodies.
THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE is currently available on digital and debuts on Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack, 4K Ultra HD™/Blu-ray 3D combo pack and DVD Aug. 16.
In the animated comedy-adventure, THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE, we’ll finally find out why the birds are so angry. The movie takes us to an island populated entirely by happy, flightless birds – or almost entirely. In this paradise, Red (Jason Sudeikis), a bird with a temper problem, speedy Chuck (Josh Gad), and the volatile Bomb (Danny McBride) have always been outsiders. But when the island is visited by mysterious green piggies, it’s up to these unlikely outcasts to figure out what the pigs are up to. THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE has a run time of approximately 97 minutes and is rated PG for rude humor and action.
