A Walking School Bus (WSB) is fueled by human energy and consists of a group of five to 10 children walking to school under adult supervision. The WSB concept was developed to enable children to walk to school safely even when traffic and crime is a concern.
It can be as informal as two families taking turns walking their children to school, to as structured as a route with meeting points, a timetable and a regularly-rotated schedule of trained volunteers.
This people-powered form of transportation has caught on in communities across the country and around the world.
